New Patient Information
Here at SmileBuilders Children's Dentistry, our number one priority is to make your child as comfortable at the dentist as possible. Our office is designed with children in mind. With sky-themed office décor, movies throughout the office, and a game room, we want your child to feel at home when they walk through our doors.
Before the First Visit
For many children, the first visit to the dentist may be a bit nerve-wracking. It's important to discuss the positive aspects of dentistry, and give them good feelings about coming in to see us. One way to convey good feelings is to explain that the doctor will clean and count their teeth, as well as take pictures of them. Explaining to them that keeping their mouth healthy helps keep the rest of their body healthy is also important.
Please refrain from telling your child if you do not like going to the dentist or “that dentist will not hurt” as this thought may not have occurred to them. Do not give them the idea that there is anything to be afraid of, because our goal is to help your child develop positive associations with the dentist and oral health. Instead, reassure your child that the dentist will be kind and gentle. We recommend avoiding words like needle, pull, drill, or any other phrases that suggest unpleasantness or pain.
If you expect your child to do well and enjoy their visit to SmileBuilders, chances are he/she will do exactly that!
Your Child's First Visit
At your child's first visit, we will review your child's health history form with you. Your child will be introduced to members of our dental team and be invited to tour our office. We welcome and highly encourage you to join your child into the treatment area during the initial examination. This will give you the opportunity to see our staff in action and ask the doctor any questions, voice any concerns, or discuss different treatments and care options for your child.
During the examination, the doctor will examine your child's head and neck and then evaluate the health of their teeth, gums, and bite. Dental radiographs are taken only when necessary. The cleaning will likely be performed after everything has been demonstrated and explained to them. This helps put your child at ease. If your child needs any additional services, we will schedule it for a later appointment.
Before your child's first visit appointment with SmileBuilders, we invite you to print and fill out the forms below. This will help you save some time at your appointment, and can help answer any questions you may have. If you have any additional questions, comments or concerns, please contact our office today.
